Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) is a non-ionic, water soluble cellulose ether with properties of film forming, water retention, stability and adhesiveness. It is frequently used in building materials to enhance adhesion, water retention, lubricity, shrink resistance and crack resistance.
Modified cellulose ethers can help enhance sag resistance, crack resistance, pressure resistance and tensile strength. Modified cellulose ether is therefore the ideal option for plaster and cement based mortars. It is non-toxic, tasteless white or off-white powder that dissolves easily in hot or cold water.
HPMC can also be used in ceramics, tobaccos and detergents, etc.
